About
Where the numbers come from.
Sources
ScrapStat reads each Division I program's own athletics site: the dual box scores the school publishes after a meet. Tournament brackets are imported from bracket exports by hand. Every bout on this site links to the page or file it was read from. Nothing is copied from other stats sites.
What counts
A record counts bouts against Division I opponents that are not exhibitions. A bout against a non-Division I opponent, an exhibition, or a bout against a teammate (two wrestlers of one school meeting in an open bracket, or a wrestle-off) is listed on the wrestler's page and marked, but stays out of the record and out of fantasy scoring. A Division I school's wrestler entered unattached at an open counts as a Division I opponent; a training center or club does not. A wrestler who forfeits out of a bracket takes one loss; the later forfeits in that event are listed but not counted. Forfeit wins count.
Bonus rate is major decisions, tech falls, falls and forfeit wins over counted bouts. A tech fall or major whose box score printed no score is still a bonus win.
PPM and rank
PPM is points per match under the fantasy rule: a wrestler banks his own score in a decision, major or tech fall, win or lose; a win by fall, forfeit, injury default or disqualification banks 20 and losing one banks 0. It is averaged over counted bouts whose box score printed a score, and it starts over each season.
Rank is the order of a rating at the weight the wrestler last wrestled a counted bout (his roster weight until he has one; one bout at a weight moves him, one bout back moves him back), less one rating deviation: how far the rating might be off. Every counted bout moves the rating, against a rostered wrestler or a Division I opponent outside our roster pool, more for a fall than a tech fall, a major or a decision; forfeits and injury defaults move nothing. Each bout also narrows the deviation and each idle day widens it a little, so a wrestler earns his place with bouts: a 3-0 start sits below a 20-12 season until the bouts back it up, and a rank shown faded, with its bout count in small type under it, still rests on fewer than eight bouts in his career; at eight the rank shows plain and stays plain, since the bouts behind it do not reset with the calendar. A third of the distance from the starting rating is given back at the start of each season, so last year counts without deciding this year. Everyone on a roster is ranked from day one: a returner from last year's rating with its deviation widened over the summer, a freshman or transfer new to the pool at the bottom of his weight until he wrestles. The rankings tables open in rank order and can be sorted by wins, win rate, bonus rate, PPM, falls, tech falls or majors.
Confirmed
A dual bout marked confirmed was reported by both schools and the two pages agree. one source means only one school has published it so far; the bout is still real. Tournament bouts come from one bracket export each.
Coverage
A season is complete only when every dual's page printed a box score and every open was exported. Some programs publish prose recaps with no box score, and a few opens are not exported; those bouts are missing here, and the other school's page covers the dual when it prints one. In the 2025-26 season that came to about three quarters of all bouts. The current season fills in within two hours of a school posting its box score.
